Mathijs Vervloed worked with families of children with visual and multiple impairments in an early intervention program before he moved to Radboud University in Nijmegen, school of Pedagogical and Educational Science and the Behavioural Science Institute (BSI). For six years he combined doing research with clinical work at an institution for deaf and deafblind people. His research concerns the development of children, youth and young adults who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, multiply impaired or deafblind. Since 2023 he is endowed Professor in augmentative and Alternative Communication for children with complex communication needs.
