INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT AND ASSESSMENT

The area focuses on diagnosis and evaluation processes, protocols and programs, issues of diagnosis in clinical, developmental and functional framework, assessment protocols, programs and instruments, assessment of vision and development, understanding the way that visual impairments impact development, proposed care pathway and therapies, specific needs and support, working with caregivers and team coordination, wellbeing and quality of life.

EDUCATION AND LEARNING

Education and learning include the evaluation and support of needs within learning and school contexts, the approach of aspects such as play, interactions and relationships with peers, reading and writing skills, emergent literacy and literacy, Braille and pre-Braille, use of technology and aids, classroom management, strategies and resources, accessibility and inclusion. The area distinguishes the importance of facilitating and supporting learning, understanding of unique needs and implications of visual impairment and blindness, need of qualified teachers and specialists, working in multi- and interdisciplinary teams, inclusive schools and agencies.

HABILITATION AND REHABILITATION

The area focuses on aspects that support the development of knowledge, abilities and values in relation with development, habilitation and rehabilitation, functioning in various domains of development and intervention, such as vision rehabilitation, sensory-motor, neuromotor, communication, neurological, cognitive, orientation and mobility, use of assistive technology and optical aids, developed and implemented in programs of care, support and intervention , such as occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, physical therapy.

ACCESS, PARTICIPATION AND ENGAGEMENT IN SOCIETY

The area focuses on aspects such as accessibility and inclusion, independent living skills, models and quality of life, so that access and participation are enabled and supported, with the need to develop skills in orientation and mobility, use of technology and aids, within various activities that lead to engagement in society and various contexts, preparing for adult life and independence in various social and working environment.
